Best Ever Season! Triple promotion…

Third XI celebrating their promotion…

2015 Season Review: The league season is now completed and thought’s are now turning towards Bonfire Night and Christmas. The season has been a memorable one for all at DCC. Our first year in the higher echelons of the Home Counties Premier Cricket League has been a fine one, new opponents, new friends and lots of travel but secure in the knowledge that the 1st team not only survived but competed and will be looking to push on next season. Gareth Harte was a revelation and we were very lucky to have him. Steven Naylor was number 2 in the league for runs scored (760) only bettered by Gareth (964). Tim Alldis (477) Harry Stephens (324) and Adam Jones (305) ensured the Datchet batting order was formidable. A sad note here that Eswar Krishnamurthy a true club man and the owner of Datchet’s first ever century in the HCPCL is moving to pastures new and we thank him for all his runs and wickets over the past few years. An outstanding individual who will be a big boost to the lucky club that he chooses in Hertfordshire. Thank you Eswar and our best wishes from the whole club that your move is a big success you will be missed! But remember there will always be a place for you at Datchet (DTID).

On the bowling front Harry Stephens led the way with his very consistent off spin taking 35 wickets, edging out Gareth with 32 wickets and Steven with 24. Alex Bartlett, Sam Finn Oli Smithson and Ben Tyler all made telling contributions with bat and ball and the future of the club looks bright with these talented youngsters. Tom Lambert restricted due to his shoulder operation was a stalwart with the bat, grinding down bowlers and giving a great base for the stroke players to make their contributions. All in all a great season for the 1sts and one they should rightly be proud of as Datchet’s highest finish in it’s history.

The 2nds regrouped with a new Captain in Dan Grahame and priority was promotion to level 3 and this was achieved with 1 game to go . Andy Dick (Club Captain) was the standout performer taking over 60 wickets which laid the platform for promotion. Stalwart Nick Kenny chipped in with 15 wickets to add to his ever increasing tally. Vishal Aeri, Mark George, Theinus Jackson, Pete Singh, Arun Oram, Dan Grahame Calum Taylor and Tom Jones helped this experienced side grind out results each week with their bating. The future of the club was well represented by Bayley Hall a young seamer with a bright future. Matt Jones, and Calum Edgar were young players who should now be looking into cementing their place in the 2nds next season.

The 3rds had a bumpy start under their young captain Toby Grant but after 3 games got into a groove. Results started to go their way and for the second half of the season they kept in touch with the promotion slots. Going into their last game a win was needed to gain promotion and this was achieved emphatically bowling out Wycombe Dragons for 73 and winning by 7 wickets and taking their place in Level 6. Highlights included a 10 fer for Jawad Hussain and a 100 for the skipper. Telling all round contributions from Peter Brant and Russell Cox, great bowling from Bali Singh and again the youngsters with Calum Edgar, Andrew Hester, Usman Ali and Ben Jones ensures that the future of the club is safe.

4th XI Kinders Army shocked us all! With the complicated nature of their league fixtures it wasn’t realised until there very last game that they had in fact been promoted. Kinder is the star of this team working tirelessly just to get a team out. A production line of Colts is now starting to seep into the higher XI’s and this is down to the hard work of the colts coaches on our Academy Nights.

An incredible season with the triple promotions of the 2nds, 3rds and 4ths and the 1st team holding their own with the big boys. All at DCC should be very proud of their achievements this season

And some thank you’s…

A Cricket Club doesn’t just happen, a lot of hard work is put in to ensure that the players can turn up and enjoy their games. I’d like to thank the following especially and also all the supporters of Datchet Cricket Club whom make it a special place. Sally Finn and Ian Oram our scorers who give up their time for free. Graham Thomas our 2nd XI Umpire, Ken Hall our Club Ambassador whose work on a Saturday doesn’t go unnoticed and enhances our reputation as a friendly club. Our tea ladies Jamie, Alistair, Fiona, Georgina and Hilary whom without we’d be very hungry. Kevin and his Bar team especially Tom who ensures our bar is open on a match day.
Our committee sometimes not seen but always working to ensure the clubs survival. Pam for her tireless cleaning ensuring the club is kept in a decent state. Finally to our Groundsmen Jim and Stuart whom without, there would be no pitch or a beautiful outfield. The club has come a long way over the past few years and it is down to these people more than the players that have been the foundations of this success. Thank you all you are very much appreciated!! ‪#‎dtwd‬
